Introducing Youth Mental Health First Aid Courses at Phoenix
5th May 2021
Following the success of the Adult Mental Health First Aid Course that we ran in late April in conjunction with The Saltaire Training Company, we are excited to announce that we will be hosting a series of Youth Mental Health First Aid courses to help support those working with children and young adults between the ages of 8 and 18.
These courses aim to give you confidence to spot the signs of mental health issues in a young person so that you can offer first aid and help to guide them towards getting the help and support that they need, speeding up recovery and improving their lives. If you are unsure of as to whether you should attend the course, we have helpfully answered a few FAQ’s below to help you decide!
Who should attend a Youth Mental Health First Aid Course?
- This course is suitable for those who want to gain the necessary skills to have a non-judgmental conversation, recognise the signs and symptoms of common mental health illnesses and understand how they can affect young people. Anyone can attend, but we hope that those working in schools or primarily youth focussed environment will find a great amount of benefit from it that they can take and apply to their daily working lives
What will I learn on the course?
- Over the two days, this course aims to teach you to listen, reassure and respond, even in a crisis situation and even to potentially stop a crisis from happening. Each delegate will be given the time that they need to work through different scenarios and ask questions so that they can get as much out of the course as they feel that they need
How is the course taught?
- Training will be delivered from our Keighley based training room via The Saltaire Training Company, who will break the days down into four sessions and the content will be delivered via presentations, discussion, group activities and videos, so that each delegate feels immersed in the learning experience. To give an idea of the course content, please see below:
